Why We Started Chiropractic Maui
Dr. James P. Urban has been practicing chiropractic for over 35 years. He graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1991, and built and maintained successful practices in Nebraska and Colorado before settling on Maui.
What sets the practice apart is method. Dr. Urban is the only chiropractor on Maui who exclusively uses the Gonstead Method, a system developed by Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead beginning in 1923 and refined over 55 years. The Gonstead approach is built on a single principle: every patient is a unique case, and care is not scientific unless the adjustment is specific to that patient.
In practice, that means no two visits look the same. Dr. Urban analyzes each spine individually using x-ray, instrumentation, visualization, and static and motion palpation, then delivers an adjustment matched to what that spine actually needs. The goal is the least amount of force, carefully applied, to address the patient’s specific structural and neurological needs, not the same twisting routine applied to everyone who walks through the door.
Patients come in with back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, carpal tunnel, and other concerns. The work is the same: find the misalignment, make the specific correction, restore proper nerve function, let the body do what it knows how to do.
